JoAnna Smith is an assistant coach and director of basketball operations for the University at Buffalo women's basketball program in Buffalo, New York. She joined the staff in September 2025 and is in her second season in the operations role after being hired by head coach Kristen Sharkey.
A former Buffalo standout, Smith finished her career as one of the program's most accomplished players. She earned All-MAC recognition in each of her final two seasons, including second-team honors as a senior after leading the team in scoring. Smith ranks among the top 10 in program history in points, field goals made, and three-pointers, and she is the winningest player of Buffalo's MAC era. She graduated from UB in 2017 with a degree in Transnational and African American Studies, later played professionally in Portugal, and worked in customer service roles.
