JJ Ferreira
Assistant Coach
JJ Ferreira returned to the Maryland women’s gymnastics staff in June 2018 for his second stint with the program, having previously served from 2010 to 2016. During his earlier tenure, he helped the Terps capture two regular season ACC/EAGL titles (2011, 2013) and make strong showings at both conference championships and NCAA Regionals. Specializing in vault and floor, Ferreira played a key role in the program’s record-setting performances, including a vault team score of 49.30. Before joining Maryland, he coached at Springfield College, where he was named ECAC Assistant Coach of the Year in 2010, and also trained Level 7–10 gymnasts at the Unique Sports Academy in Waldorf, Maryland. A former standout gymnast at Springfield College, Ferreira competed from 2004–2008, served as a co-captain, and qualified twice for the NCAA Championships. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Movement and Sports Studies with a minor in Health in 2008 and later completed a Master’s of Education in athletic administration. Ferreira now brings his coaching expertise and passion for the sport to Maryland while residing in Halethorpe, Maryland, with his husband, RJ Mansfield.
