Jim Sullivan has served as an assistant coach for the University of Connecticut track and field and cross country program in Storrs, Connecticut, since 2022, working with the women's pole vaulters. Under his coaching, UConn's women swept the pole vault at the 2024 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships, with Kalli Knott, Rachel Mason, and Sofia Wittmann finishing first through third, and Mason setting a personal best of 3.83 meters. The Huskies also claimed the top four spots in the event at the 2024 BIG EAST Indoor Championships.
Before joining UConn, Sullivan coached pole vaulters at Tennessee as a volunteer coach after Beth Alford-Sullivan was named director of track and field/cross country there. At Tennessee, he worked with Jake Blankenship, who won the 2016 NCAA outdoor title in the pole vault.
