Jimmy Moran
Pitching Coach
Jimmy Moran enters his fourth season as pitching coach for the Seton Hall University baseball program, bringing a diverse background in player development, scouting, and professional baseball to South Orange. Prior to joining the Pirates, Moran spent seven seasons with the Cincinnati Reds organization, serving as an area scouting supervisor and Minor League coach. His experience evaluating and developing talent across multiple states, along with on-field roles in the Arizona Complex League and the USA Baseball Player Development Pipeline League, helped shape his comprehensive approach to pitcher development. A former BIG EAST pitcher at the University of South Florida, Moran was selected in the 2011 MLB Draft by the Reds and advanced to Triple-A with the Louisville Bats.
Moran made an immediate impact on Seton Hall’s pitching staff. In his first season, the Pirates lowered their team ERA to 4.43—nearly 2.5 runs better than the previous year—leading the BIG EAST and ranking among the top 35 nationally. The staff also finished tied for first in the conference with five shutouts and ranked among the nation’s leaders in hits allowed per nine innings. Under his guidance, Nick Payero earned All-BIG EAST First Team honors after posting a career-best 3.12 ERA. Moran’s contributions helped fuel a 13-win improvement and a return to the BIG EAST Tournament, earning the staff BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year recognition.
