Jim Moran
Associate Head Coach
Jim Moran (full name James Timothy Moran) is an American‐Irish former professional basketball player turned coach. He was born on December 3, 1978, in Syosset, New York, and attended St. Dominic High School in Oyster Bay. He played four seasons of college basketball at William & Mary (1997–2001), where he was a two-time All-CAA selection and scored over 1,300 career points. After college, Moran spent his entire professional playing career (2001–2011) with Spanish club CB Gran Canaria in Spain’s Liga ACB. His impact in Gran Canaria was significant: he had his jersey retired by the club, becoming the only player in its history to receive that honor. After his playing career, Moran transitioned into coaching and player development. He began as a player development coach with the Maine Red Claws (NBA G League) in 2013, then joined the Portland Trail Blazers in 2014 as an associate video coordinator before being promoted to full assistant coach (2015–2021). He later served as assistant coach for the Detroit Pistons (2021–2023) and became head coach of Portland’s G League affiliate, Rip City Remix, for 2023–2024. In 2024, he joined the Sacramento Kings as an assistant coach under Mike Brown, before accepting the role as Associate Head Coach at Florida State for the 2025–26 season under head coach Luke Loucks.
