Jim Garren
Assistant Coach
Jim Garren is a seasoned collegiate golf coach with more than 16 years of experience and a proven record of program-building success at the Division I level. Since joining the University of Miami women’s golf staff in 2023, Garren has helped the Hurricanes secure five team titles, reach NCAA Regional Championships in both 2024 and 2025, and set multiple individual and team scoring records — accomplishments that reflect his strong emphasis on competitive excellence and player development. Under his guidance, Miami student-athletes have earned All-American recognition and individual tournament victories, while standout player Sara Byrne achieved selections for both the 2024 Palmer Cup and the prestigious Curtis Cup representing Europe. Garren’s work in Coral Gables continues to strengthen Miami’s pursuit of national prominence in women’s collegiate golf.
Before his current role with the Hurricanes, Garren achieved notable success across several prominent golf programs. Most recently he served as head men’s golf coach at Coastal Carolina University from 2017 to 2022, where he led the Chanticleers to a Sun Belt Conference Championship, an NCAA Regional berth, and earned Sun Belt Coach of the Year honors. His teams produced multiple individual champions and All-Conference performers, marking a resurgence in national competitiveness. Earlier in his career, Garren contributed to Oklahoma’s rise in men’s golf success as an assistant coach, helping the Sooners capture the 2017 NCAA National Championship and multiple NCAA Regional titles. He also held assistant coaching positions at the University of New Mexico and Southern Mississippi, gaining valuable experience that shaped his coaching philosophy focused on competitive growth, player development, and academic achievement.
