Jim Cantamessa
Assistant Coach
Jim Cantamessa is an assistant coach for the Eckerd College men’s basketball program, having joined the Tritons’ staff in August 2023 and entering his third season in 2025–26. Before coming to Eckerd, Cantamessa spent 12 seasons on the coaching staff at Greensboro College in Greensboro, North Carolina. There he served in multiple roles — including assistant coach, associate head coach, and head coach of the men’s basketball team — from 2010 through 2023, working closely with current Eckerd head coach Bryan Galuski for many of those years. He also led Greensboro’s men’s golf program as head coach. At Greensboro, he helped develop standout players like Greyson Collins, who earned All-USA South First Team honors in 2020–21, marking a high point for the Pride.
Prior to his coaching career, Cantamessa was an accomplished collegiate and professional basketball player. He played at Siena College under coach Paul Hewitt, where he was nationally recognized as the nation’s leading three-point shooter in 1997 and graduated with a degree in business finance in 2000. After college, he enjoyed an eight-year professional career in Europe, competing in France, Germany, Portugal, and Belgium. He was selected as a Euro All-Star in 2008 and was a member of the Belgian national championship team in 2005 during his time with Euphony Bree. Cantamessa’s background as both a player and coach brings deep experience in player development, international competition, and collegiate basketball strategy to the Eckerd program.
