Jeff Matteo
Associate Head Coach
Jeff Matteo is in his eighth season on the Seton Hall University men’s soccer coaching staff and was promoted to Associate Head Coach prior to the 2024 season after serving as an assistant coach from 2018 to 2023. Since arriving in South Orange, Matteo has played a key role in recruiting and developing talent under head coach Andreas Lindberg. During his tenure, the Pirates have qualified for the BIG EAST Tournament in four of the last five seasons, captured the 2020 BIG EAST Championship, and advanced to the NCAA Tournaments in 2020 and 2022. The 2020 season marked one of the most successful campaigns in program history, as Seton Hall reached the NCAA Quarterfinals and earned both BIG EAST and East Region Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
Matteo brought extensive BIG EAST experience to Seton Hall following an 11-year stint as an assistant coach at St. John’s University. While with the Red Storm, he helped guide the program to five NCAA Tournament appearances, three BIG EAST titles, and a berth in the 2008 College Cup, mentoring numerous All-Region and All-BIG EAST selections. As a player at St. John’s, Matteo was an All-American and the 2001 BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year, competing in four NCAA Tournaments and winning two conference championships. After graduating in 2001 with a degree in telecommunications and a minor in business, he enjoyed a five-year professional playing career in the United States and Italy before transitioning into collegiate coaching.
