Jay Boulware is the running backs coach for West Virginia football in Morgantown, West Virginia, joining the Mountaineers in January 2026 after three seasons at Kentucky.
A veteran coach with 29 years of experience, Boulware arrived at WVU from Kentucky, where he coached running backs and coordinated special teams. His special teams units posted strong national rankings, including a No. 2 finish in kickoff return yards in 2023, a top-25 ranking in kickoff return defense in 2024 and 2025, and a No. 6 ranking in punt return defense in 2024. Kentucky's return game also produced three kickoff return touchdowns in 2023. In 2024, kicker Alex Raynor earned second-team All-America recognition, was a Lou Groza Award finalist and the SEC Special Teams Player of the Year, while return specialist Barion Brown received conference and All-America honors.
