Jase Coburn has served as the head coach of the Portland State men’s basketball program since 2021, building the Vikings into a competitive force in the Big Sky Conference through a culture centered on toughness, effort, and unity. Over his first four seasons, Coburn steadily improved the program, culminating in a 19-13 record during the 2024-25 campaign—the team’s best finish under his leadership and its strongest season since 2017-18. That year, Portland State finished third in the Big Sky with an 11-7 conference mark while establishing a dominant home-court presence, going 13-1 at Viking Pavilion. His teams have also excelled defensively, consistently ranking among conference leaders in scoring defense, turnovers forced, and field goal percentage defense.
Coburn’s journey to becoming a Division I head coach reflects years of dedication across multiple levels of basketball. Before taking over at Portland State, he spent eight years on staff with the program, including roles as assistant and associate head coach, where he was instrumental in recruiting and defensive development. His coaching background also includes stops at Howard College, Phoenix College, and the high school level, where he won a state championship at McClintock High School. A Mesa, Arizona native, Coburn played collegiately at MiraCosta College and earned his degree from Arizona State. Known for his relentless work ethic and player-first mentality, he has established a strong foundation for sustained success at Portland State.
