James Marcou is an assistant coach for the University of Massachusetts Amherst men's ice hockey program in Amherst, Massachusetts, having returned to his alma mater in May 2026.
Before joining the UMass staff, Marcou spent seven seasons as an assistant coach at Harvard, where he worked with the forwards and oversaw the power play. Harvard's power play led all NCAA Division I teams in 2019-20 at 31.2 percent, and he was part of staffs that guided the Crimson to the NCAA tournament in 2021-22 and 2022-23. The 2021-22 team won both the ECAC and Ivy League titles, and the 2022-23 roster included 15 NHL draft picks, the most in the country that season. Across his time at Harvard, he helped coach and develop nine future NHL players, five All-Americans, and two Olympians.
