Hunter Royer
Head Coach
Hunter Royer enters his 17th season as head coach of the University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball program in 2025–26, compiling a career record of 434-308-2 through his first 16 seasons. Royer became the program’s all-time winningest coach on March 1, 2019, earning his 277th career victory at Christian Brothers. He reached another milestone with his 300th win on February 22, 2020 against Union and surpassed the 400-win mark on February 25, 2024. Under his leadership, the Chargers have advanced to the NCAA South Regional three times (2012, 2014, 2021) and captured the 2014 Gulf South Conference Tournament Championship, while also reaching the GSC Tournament title game in 2012 and 2016.
During his tenure, Royer has coached two MLB Amateur Draft selections, seven All-Americans, two GSC Players of the Year, one ABCA/D2CCA/NCBWA South Region Player of the Year, two GSC Freshmen of the Year, and 48 All-GSC honorees. He served as UAH’s interim head coach in 2010 before being officially appointed head coach in 2011. Prior to that, he spent three seasons as an assistant at UAH, earning recognition in 2009 as the top collegiate assistant coach in Alabama by the Alabama Baseball Coaches Association. Royer previously coached at West Alabama, helping lead the Tigers to consecutive NCAA South Central Regional appearances and a 2005 GSC Championship. A 2003 University of Alabama graduate with a degree in Human Performance, Royer is a Sweetwater, Tennessee native and resides in Huntsville with his son, Grady, and daughter, Collette.
