Holman Copeland is the cornerbacks coach for the University at Buffalo football program in Buffalo, New York, and is in his fourth year on the staff. After working with Buffalo's defensive backs in 2023, he returned for a third season coaching the cornerbacks. In 2025, cornerback Kobi Blackwell posted a 33.3 forced incompletion rate, the best mark in the Mid-American Conference and one of the top figures nationally. The year before, Buffalo finished 9-4, beat Liberty in the Bahamas Bowl, and led the MAC with 13 interceptions. Copeland also coached a secondary that produced a school-record 100-yard interception return for a touchdown by Marquis Cooper against UMass. In 2023, the Bulls tied for third in the conference with 11 interceptions, and true freshman Charles McCartherens ranked second on the team with three picks.
Copeland's return to Buffalo was also a return to a familiar program. He previously served as a graduate assistant at UB in 2012 and 2013. In his first season, he worked with the linebackers and helped mentor future first-round NFL draft pick Khalil Mack. The following year he coached the secondary as Buffalo finished second in the MAC in both total defense and scoring defense and earned a trip to the Idaho Potato Bowl.
