Hilary Ritchie
Head Coach
Hilary Ritchie is the head coach of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights women’s tennis program and enters her 10th season in the role during the 2025–26 campaign. Promoted to head coach on August 25, 2016, Ritchie has been a central figure in the program’s evolution, having previously served six seasons as an assistant coach at Rutgers. During her tenure, she has guided the Scarlet Knights through sustained competitive growth in the Big Ten Conference, while establishing new program benchmarks in team success, regional recognition, and national visibility. Under her leadership, Rutgers has achieved historic milestones including its first-ever national ITA team ranking, individual All-Big Ten honors, and multiple advances in the Big Ten Tournament.
Ritchie’s teams have steadily progressed both competitively and academically, earning regional rankings, Big Ten victories, and ITA All-Academic recognition. She has coached players to national and regional singles and doubles rankings, while emphasizing long-term development within one of the nation’s most competitive conferences. Prior to becoming head coach, Ritchie was named ITA Northeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year in 2015 and helped guide Rutgers through multiple conference transitions. Her coaching career began as a graduate assistant at St. Lawrence University. As a collegiate player, Ritchie starred at Colorado State University after beginning her career at Iowa, earning All-Mountain West honors and ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition. A Colorado native, she holds a bachelor’s degree from Colorado State University and a master’s degree in education from St. Lawrence University, and resides in New Jersey with her family.
