Greg Larnerd
Assistant Softball Coach/Hitting Coach
Greg Larnerd joined the University of North Alabama softball staff as assistant coach and hitting coach on July 21, 2025. He arrived in Florence following two successful seasons at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he helped guide the Mocs to back-to-back Southern Conference regular-season championships in 2024 and 2025. Chattanooga also captured the 2024 SoCon Tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Regional in Tallahassee. Known for his energy and offensive expertise, Larnerd brings more than 18 years of coaching and teaching experience across softball and baseball to the Lions’ program.
Larnerd began his collegiate playing career at SUNY Plattsburgh, lettering four seasons in baseball before graduating in 2013 with a degree in Audio/Radio Production. He went on to coach travel and developmental baseball, founding the Scenic City Rangers organization in Chattanooga in 2021. His transition into collegiate softball coaching began in January 2024 when he joined Chattanooga’s staff. In addition to his coaching background, Larnerd has built an accomplished career in sports media, serving as a host and producer for ESPN Chattanooga 95.3 FM and as a sports correspondent for News Channel 9. His blend of player development experience, championship pedigree, and communication skills strengthens UNA’s offensive approach under head coach Ashley Cozart.
