Grant Leonard
Head Men's Basketball Coach
Grant Leonard took over as head men’s basketball coach at Queens University of Charlotte in the spring of 2022, after serving six seasons as the associate head coach. Prior to that, he joined the program in 2013 as an assistant coach and steadily rose through the ranks. Over his two decades in coaching, Leonard has accrued experience at multiple levels, including stints at Paine College, Flagler College, Texas–Pan American, and Washington College, serving in roles spanning recruiting, defense, skill development, and operations. Under his guidance, Queens has not only navigated the transition from Division II to Division I, but also made program history: during the 2024–25 season, Leonard led the Royals to their first 20-win campaign in D-I, their first Division I postseason invitation via the CBI, and an ASUN Tournament semifinal appearance. He has also recruited and developed players who have earned conference honors and professional opportunities.
Leonard holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology (cum laude) from William Penn University and a master’s degree in psychology from Washington College. He and his wife Haley, a Charlotte native and local math teacher, reside in Belmont, North Carolina. Off the court, he is known for emphasizing integrity, character, and community engagement, which has earned him recognition such as a finalist nod for the Skip Prosser Man of the Year Award.
