Glenn Michibata
Assistant Coach
Glenn Michibata is an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s tennis programs at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), entering his seventh season on the Lions’ coaching staff in the 2024–25 academic year. Michibata brings an exceptional blend of collegiate, professional, and international tennis experience to TCNJ, significantly enhancing the program’s technical instruction and competitive preparation. Prior to joining the Lions, he spent 12 seasons as the head men’s tennis coach at Princeton University, where he compiled a 145–121 overall record and led the Tigers to winning Ivy League seasons in seven of those years. During his tenure at Princeton, he coached three Ivy League Players of the Year and consistently guided his teams through one of the nation’s most competitive academic conferences.
A native of Toronto, Canada, Michibata enjoyed an illustrious playing career before transitioning into coaching. He was a three-time All-American and four-year letterwinner at Pepperdine University before competing professionally on the ATP Tour from 1983 to 1993. During his professional career, Michibata represented Canada on 14 Davis Cup teams and achieved the world No. 1 doubles ranking in 1991 alongside partner Grant Connell. He reached the doubles semifinals at Wimbledon and the French Open, the finals of the Australian Open, and advanced to the second round of all four Grand Slam tournaments in singles. His achievements have earned him induction into multiple halls of fame, including the Canadian Tennis Hall of Fame. Michibata’s elite playing background and extensive coaching résumé make him a vital asset to TCNJ’s sustained tennis success.
