Giovana Melo was named associate head coach of the University of Oregon volleyball program in February 2025, bringing extensive head coaching experience and a strong record of program building. Prior to joining Oregon, Melo spent 11 seasons as the head coach at CSU Bakersfield, where she led the Roadrunners to multiple postseason appearances, including NCAA Tournament berths in 2014 and 2017 and an NIVC appearance in 2021. During her tenure, she guided the program to two Western Athletic Conference tournament titles and coached numerous all-conference, all-tournament, and academic honorees, demonstrating a consistent ability to develop both high-level athletes and well-rounded student-athletes.
Before her time at CSU Bakersfield, Melo enjoyed remarkable success at Western Nebraska Community College, where she compiled a 262-20 record over six seasons. She led the program to five NJCAA Division I Final Four appearances and captured the 2010 national championship, earning multiple regional and national coaching honors along the way. A former standout setter, Melo played at both Western Nebraska and Arizona State, where she was a team captain before transitioning into coaching. She began her coaching career as an assistant at Arizona State and has remained actively involved in developing talent throughout her career. Melo’s international background and proven leadership make her a valuable addition to Oregon’s coaching staff.
