Gavin Wyse
Associate Head Coach
Gavin Wyse is the associate head coach of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights men’s soccer program, entering his seventh season on Jim McElderry’s staff during the 2025 campaign. Wyse joined Rutgers in 2019 after spending nine seasons alongside McElderry at Fordham, where the duo helped guide the Rams to three NCAA Tournament appearances and two Atlantic 10 championships. Highly regarded within the profession, Wyse was named one of the nation’s top assistants by College Soccer News in 2017. At Rutgers, he has been instrumental in the program’s resurgence, contributing to landmark victories over nationally ranked opponents and playing a key role in the Scarlet Knights’ first-ever Big Ten Tournament Championship in 2022. That season also marked Rutgers’ first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2015 and earned the staff United Soccer Coaches North Region Staff of the Year honors.
Wyse has consistently helped develop high-level talent and foster team success. Under his guidance, Rutgers has produced MLS SuperDraft selections and professional signees, while also earning multiple All-Big Ten, All-Freshman, and academic honors. His coaching impact extends back to Fordham, where he helped engineer a historic NCAA quarterfinal run in 2017 and contributed to sustained conference success. Known for his recruiting acumen, Wyse has been especially influential in identifying international talent and strengthening recruiting pipelines in the tri-state area. A former collegiate player at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, Wyse holds multiple advanced coaching licenses and brings extensive club and academy coaching experience to the Scarlet Knights. He and his wife, Sinead, are the parents of two sons, Darragh and Caden.
