Gary Wielgus is an assistant coach for Drexel University's men's rowing team in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, joining the staff in August 2024. Before arriving at Drexel, he served as an assistant coach with the University of Pennsylvania men's lightweight rowing team, where he helped shape technical and conditioning goals. Penn's lightweight 4+ won silver at the IRA National Championship, and the coaching staff was nominated for IRCA Lightweight Coaching Staff of the Year.
Wielgus has also worked with the USRowing men's lightweight quadruple scull at the Senior World Championships in St. Catharine's, Ontario. Earlier, he spent two years as head assistant coach for the novice and varsity boys at Moorestown Rowing Club. A Philadelphia native, he rowed three seasons at Temple and was part of the varsity heavyweight 8+ that won bronze at the 2016 Dad Vail. He earned his bachelor's degree in general studies from Temple in 2024.
