Garrett Nickel is an assistant coach for the Boston College softball program in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, and he begins his first season on the staff after arriving from Howard University. At Howard, he spent one year as an assistant coach with responsibility for the pitching staff and recruiting. The Bison earned five MEAC Pitcher of the Week honors and produced three All-MEAC First Team pitchers while leading the conference in every major pitching category.
Before Howard, Nickel was a sport development manager for the Auckland Softball Association, where he built high-performance programs and worked with the New Zealand National Team and eight other North Island softball associations. He also played two seasons with Auckland's premier team. His previous college and professional experience includes one season at Stetson University and one with Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball. At Stetson, his pitchers recorded seven shutouts, 218 strikeouts, and wins over Liberty, Delaware, and Maryland.
