Freddie Murray
Assistant Coach/Chief of Staff
Freddie Murray is a veteran collegiate women’s basketball coach currently serving as Assistant Coach and Chief of Staff for the Morgan State Lady Bears Women’s Basketball program in Baltimore, Maryland, a position he assumed in August 2025. Before joining Morgan State, Murray brought his extensive coaching experience to the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and Alabama A&M women’s basketball staffs, contributing to the development and competitive success of those programs within the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).
Murray’s coaching career spans over two decades across several respected institutions. He spent eight transformative seasons at Grambling State University, including serving as head coach of the Lady Tigers, where he led the team to a SWAC Tournament championship and an NCAA Tournament berth in 2018 — a significant milestone for the program — and a regular-season co-championship the previous year. Prior to Grambling State, Murray contributed as an assistant coach at Florida A&M University, helping the Lady Rattlers to one of their best seasons, and at North Carolina A&T State University, where his tenure included multiple MEAC Regular Season Championships and a WNIT Sweet Sixteen run. Earlier in his career, he also coached at McNeese State University and began his coaching journey at his alma mater, Jackson State University, where he helped guide the Lady Tigers to a SWAC regular season title. A native of Jackson, Mississippi, Murray holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Jackson State University.
