Ezequiel Gils
Associate Head Coach
Ezequiel Gils returned to the University of Alabama men’s tennis program as an assistant coach in July 2024 and serves in an associate head coaching capacity on George Husack’s staff. Gils previously spent three seasons (2020–23) as a volunteer assistant with the Crimson Tide, contributing to 35 team victories and the development of multiple All-SEC performers. During his tenure, he helped coach Filip Planinsek to ITA Rookie of the Year and SEC Freshman of the Year honors in 2022. Since his return, Gils has assisted in guiding Alabama to another NCAA Team Tournament appearance and helped coach players such as Roan Jones and Matic Kriznik to NCAA Singles Championship berths, continuing the program’s national presence.
Between his two stints at Alabama, Gils served as head coach at UAB for the 2023–24 season, where he oversaw a nationally ranked mid-major recruiting class and coached a doubles team to the ITA Fall National Championships. His coaching background also includes time at Rice as a volunteer assistant and at the Cedar Bluff Racquet Club, where he developed nationally competitive junior players. A native of Punta del Este, Uruguay, Gils was a standout collegiate player, earning two NAIA All-America honors at Tennessee Wesleyan University and finishing his senior season with an undefeated singles record. He holds a degree from Tennessee Wesleyan and is married to Hannah.
