Erin O'Reilly is an assistant coach for the West Virginia University cross country and track and field programs in Morgantown, West Virginia, and entered her 12th season in that position after returning to the staff in August 2013. She works primarily with the Mountaineers' middle-distance runners and long-distance sprinters and has been part of a sustained period of success for the program in cross country and on the track.
Since her return, West Virginia has produced multiple NCAA cross country individual qualifiers and several strong team finishes. The Mountaineers were national runners-up at the 2024 NCAA Cross Country Championships, and earlier in her tenure they placed eighth at the 2014 national meet. In 2023, West Virginia finished fourth at both the Big 12 Cross Country Championships and the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional, with Katherine Dowie, Alexis Lamb and Sarah Tait earning All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors. O'Reilly also assisted the 2022 team that set a program record with five All-Big 12 selections at the conference cross country meet, and that season concluded with Ceili McCabe earning All-America honors while the team placed 27th at the NCAA Championships. In 2021, West Virginia earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Cross Country Championships by finishing second at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional and went on to place 21st nationally, with McCabe taking third to claim All-America recognition. The program also finished third at the 2021 Big 12 Championship, with McCabe, Sylvia Russell and Mikaela Lucki earning all-conference honors. During the COVID-affected 2020 campaign, the Mountaineers placed third at the 2021 Big 12 Cross Country Championship and qualified for the NCAA Championships as a team for the first time since 2014, finishing 29th overall. McCabe, Dowie and Charlotte Wood all placed in the top 15 at the conference meet to earn All-Big 12 honors.
