Emma Rohde returned to her alma mater in 2024 to assume the role of head coach for the University of Mary Washington (UMW) women’s volleyball program. As a student-athlete at UMW, she distinguished herself as the program’s first American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American after leading the Eagles to the 2016 NCAA Division III national quarterfinals, the best finish in school history. During her playing career she tallied a 93-36 record and guided the team to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in her junior and senior seasons.
Prior to returning home, Rohde gained coaching experience as an assistant at UMW, then at Washington & Lee University, where she contributed to two Old Dominion Athletic Conference championships and played key roles in recruiting, scouting, film-breakdown, and athlete development. She then served as head coach at Kenyon College, where her team captured the North Coast Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament titles in 2022. In 2023-24 she worked as Administrative Assistant for Academic Success and Student Engagement at Richard Bland College, further broadening her student-athlete development experience. With a deep connection to UMW, Rohde has stated that the opportunity to lead her former program is “a dream come true,” and she brings to the role a mixture of elite playing pedigree, coaching experience across multiple institutions, and a commitment to both academic and athletic excellence.
