Edwyn Edwards
Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Line
Edwyn Edwards has been a cornerstone of The College of New Jersey football program since his arrival in March 2019, serving as defensive coordinator and helping to establish the Lions as one of the most aggressive and statistically impressive defenses in Division III. Entering his sixth year with the program in 2024, Edwards’ defenses have consistently ranked among the nation’s best in disruptive metrics such as sacks and tackles for loss. In 2023, TCNJ averaged 3.40 sacks per game to rank seventh nationally, while six defenders earned All-NJAC honors and two were recognized on the D3football.com All-Region Team. His unit was equally dominant in 2022, when the Lions led the entire country in tackles for loss and ranked eighth in sacks, showcasing a relentless, attacking style of play.
Prior to joining TCNJ, Edwards built a strong résumé across several Division III programs. He served as defensive backs coach and recruiting coordinator at King’s College, his alma mater, where he significantly improved the Monarchs’ pass defense and coached multiple all-conference performers. Earlier stops included Salve Regina University, where he helped guide one of the nation’s most productive rushing offenses, and Anna Maria College, where he was promoted to defensive coordinator and engineered dramatic improvements in yards allowed over successive seasons. As a player at King’s, Edwards was a starting safety and an accomplished student-athlete, earning multiple academic honors while remaining active in campus leadership. He holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from King’s and a master’s degree in pastoral ministry from Anna Maria, reflecting a coaching philosophy rooted in discipline, accountability, and holistic student-athlete development.
