Eddie Smith is the head baseball coach at the University of Washington, where he has quickly made an impact in revitalizing the program. In his first season in 2025, Smith led the Huskies to a significant turnaround, improving their win total by 10 games and guiding the team to a top-75 RPI finish. Despite being projected to finish near the bottom of the Big Ten, Washington exceeded expectations by placing fifth in its inaugural season in the conference and earning a berth in the conference tournament. Smith’s emphasis on player development and offensive production was evident, as the team improved across nearly every statistical category against a stronger schedule.
Smith has built a reputation as one of college baseball’s top offensive minds and player developers. Over his career, he has coached 19 Major League Baseball players, including All-Star and World Series champion Chris Taylor and standout prospect Dylan Crews. Prior to Washington, he engineered dramatic program turnarounds, most notably at Utah Valley, where he transformed a struggling team into a conference contender within two seasons. His coaching résumé also includes impactful stints at LSU, Tulane, and Virginia, where he contributed to College World Series appearances. A former player at Notre Dame, Smith combines academic excellence with competitive success, bringing a high-energy, development-focused approach that positions Washington for sustained growth.
