Dr. Gavin R. White is Coach Emeritus for Temple University men's rowing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, after moving into that position following the 2016 season. He spent 37 years as the head coach of Temple men's crew and, after three seasons as an assistant, became only the second head coach in program history when he succeeded Tom "Bear" Curran in 1979. His only break from the post came in 1984-85, when he took a sabbatical to complete his doctoral degree at Temple, which he earned in 1986.
White led Temple to sustained success at the national and international levels. His crews won 20 Dad Vail Regatta varsity eight titles, including 13 straight from 1989 through 2001. He also guided the Owls to seven appearances at the Royal Henley Regatta in Great Britain, where Temple reached the grand final once and advanced to the quarterfinals four times.
