Devarus Walker
Assistant Coach
Devarus Walker begins his first season as an assistant coach at Alabama A&M University, bringing a strong background in player development and program success to the Bulldogs. He joins the staff after three seasons at Grambling State University, where he helped guide the Tigers to the 2023-24 Southwestern Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships, earning a berth in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament. During his time at Grambling, Walker contributed to the development of championship-caliber talent and played a key role in recruiting and mentoring student-athletes.
Prior to Grambling State, Walker spent five successful seasons at Stillman College, helping the program compile a 112-34 record with five NAIA National Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 finish in 2021. He also spent one season at Jones College (Mississippi), where the team posted a 29-2 record, won state and regional titles, and advanced to the NJCAA Sweet 16. Walker began his coaching career at East Central Community College, his alma mater, after competing there in basketball and tennis. A native of Hickory, Mississippi, he earned his associate degree from East Central CC, a bachelor’s degree in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation from William Carey University, and a master’s degree in Sports Administration from Grambling State in 2024. He and his wife, Charmayne, have two sons, Hunter and Bryce.
