Derek Rongstad is an assistant coach for the Providence College men's basketball program in Providence, Rhode Island, and enters his first season on the staff. Before arriving at Providence, he spent the 2025-26 season as an assistant coach at South Florida after two years at Arkansas State, where he worked in scouting, player evaluation, and recruiting.
Earlier in his career, Rongstad was on Nate Oats' staff at Alabama for four seasons, first as a graduate manager from 2019 to 2021 and then as coordinator of video services for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons. Alabama went 92-42 in that span, won four championships, and reached the NCAA Tournament three straight times, including two Sweet 16 appearances. Rongstad began coaching after playing two seasons at Wisconsin-Milwaukee and finishing his college career at Wisconsin-Whitewater, where he was a team captain as a junior and senior. A Middleton, Wisconsin, native, he earned an economics degree from Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2018, an MBA in 2020, and a master's degree in sport hospitality from Alabama in 2021.
