Deena Applebury
Head Women's Basketball Coach
Deena Applebury has served as the head coach of the women’s basketball program at the University of Mary Washington (UMW) since 2003 and is widely regarded as the architect of the greatest era in the school’s women’s basketball history. Under her leadership, the Eagles achieved a 31-3 record in 2006-07, advanced to the NCAA Division III Final Four, and she was honored as the Russell Athletic WBCA National Coach of the Year. During her tenure, Applebury’s teams posted multiple 20-win seasons, won several conference championships, and consistently advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Her squads in 2011-12 finished 30-1 and reached the Elite Eight, and she has earned multiple Coach of the Year honors at the conference, regional and national levels.
Applebury holds a B.S. in Education, cum laude, from the University of Missouri–St. Louis (1999) and completed a M.S. in Secondary Education (emphasis in Physical Education) in January 2003. She also serves as a senior lecturer in the Department of Athletics, Health and Physical Education at UMW.
