David Yates
Assistant Coach
David Yates is entering his fourth season as an assistant coach with the University of Mary Washington’s men’s soccer program. He joined the Eagles after spending a season as an assistant coach at Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in Lexington, Virginia, where he led portions of practice—particularly finishing and final-third progression—and helped recruit and prepare scouting reports for opponents. Prior to VMI, Yates coached at New England College in Henniker, New Hampshire for two seasons, where he oversaw goalkeeper training, finishing drills, defensive organization, individual sessions, and recruiting. During his tenure, the program made its first NCAA Tournament appearance, and he coached multiple all-conference recipients.
His coaching career had earlier roots at University of Maine at Farmington, where he helped the team achieve its first Northeast-10 or NAC quarter-final victory in 13 years. Yates holds a USSF “D” coaching license. On the academic side, Yates played collegiate soccer at Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Virginia, graduating in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Management. He later earned a Master of Business Administration from New England College in 2018.
