David Cox is an assistant coach for the Villanova University men's basketball program in Villanova, Pennsylvania, where he joined Kevin Willard's first Wildcats staff in May 2025. In his first season at Villanova, the Wildcats finished 24-9 in 2025-26 and earned the program's first NCAA Tournament bid since 2021-22.
Before arriving at Villanova, Cox spent three seasons on Willard's staff at the University of Maryland from 2022 to 2025, including his final two years as associate head coach. He previously served as head coach at the University of Rhode Island from 2018 to 2022 after four seasons on Dan Hurley's staff, the last two as associate head coach. Rhode Island made two NCAA Tournament appearances and one NIT trip while Cox was an assistant, advancing to the second round each time. The Rams also won the 2017 Atlantic 10 tournament title and the 2018 regular-season championship.
