Dan MacDonald
Head Men's Tennis Coach
Dan MacDonald has served as the Head Men’s Tennis Coach at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colorado since at least 2006. Under his leadership, the men’s tennis program captured the 2017 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) regular-season title — the first since MacDonald himself played for the Mavericks. He has guided the men’s team to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 run in 2010. He has also coached the women’s program, leading them to four RMAC regular-season titles and three tournament titles, with six NCAA tournament trips and back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances in 2011 and 2012. Additionally, he has been honored twelve times as RMAC Coach of the Year (seven times for women’s and five for men’s) and was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Women’s Coach of the Year in 2009.
Prior to his collegiate coaching career, MacDonald played two seasons for the Mavericks after transferring from Cowley County Community College, where he was a two-time All-American both in singles and doubles and helped the team win the Junior College Division II National Championship. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Colorado Mesa (formerly Mesa State College). Over his tenure, he has also coached two RMAC Players of the Year and three RMAC Academic Players of the Year, and has placed emphasis on holistic athlete development, multi-sport camp outreach in the community, and building programs that emphasize both competitive excellence and character.
