Daniel Sweeney is the pitching coach for the University of Delaware baseball program in Newark, Delaware, and entered his second season in that position after an immediate impact in his first year. In 2025, Delaware cut its team ERA by 0.88 runs, produced the program's fifth-lowest opponent batting average of the past 20 years, and set a school record for average fastball velocity. Ten pitchers made their Division I debuts that season, and Doug Marose became the first Blue Hen since 2022 to earn CAA Pitcher of the Week honors. Sweeney's pitchers have also advanced to professional baseball, including Nate Knowles, a fourth-round MLB Draft pick by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2024, and Carter Lovasz, an eighth-round selection by the Atlanta Braves in 2025, while Cory Wall posted a 3.46 ERA at the Double-A level with Atlanta in 2025.
Before arriving at Delaware, Sweeney was the pitching coach at William & Mary from 2022 to 2024. His staffs there ranked among the CAA's best and posted strong national marks, including a drop in team ERA from 5.88 to 4.34 in his first season. William & Mary lowered its ERA again in 2023 to 4.17, ranked ninth nationally in that category, and recorded 470 strikeouts. In 2024, the Tribe finished with a 4.75 ERA, allowed 8.75 hits per nine innings, and led the CAA with 564 strikeouts. During his time there, Carter Lovasz earned Freshman All-America recognition and Nate Knowles was named CAA Pitcher of the Year before being drafted.
