Daniel Schlereth
Assistant Coach
Daniel Schlereth was named pitching coach for the University of South Florida baseball program in June 2024, bringing elite professional experience and a fast-rising coaching résumé to head coach Mitch Hannahs’ staff. A former first-round MLB Draft pick and Major League pitcher, Schlereth joined the Bulls after two seasons as pitching coach at Western Michigan University. During the 2024 season, his Broncos staff helped lead WMU to the MAC Tournament championship and an NCAA Regional appearance, posting the program’s most wins since 1993. Western Michigan’s pitching staff recorded two shutouts during the conference tournament, finished with a 1.00 ERA across 27 innings, and struck out 30 hitters while issuing just three walks. Over the full season, the Broncos threw seven shutouts and set a school record with 444 strikeouts.
Prior to his coaching career, Schlereth spent 13 seasons in professional baseball, including four at the Major League level with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Detroit Tigers. Selected 26th overall in the 2008 MLB Draft, he debuted in the majors in 2009 and later contributed to Tigers teams that won consecutive AL Central titles and reached the 2011 ALCS and the 2012 World Series. Schlereth also gained experience in player development and pro scouting with the Pittsburgh Pirates following his playing career. A standout collegiate pitcher at the University of Arizona and a two-time All-Pac-10 selection, he now applies his professional insight to developing USF’s pitching staff. He and his wife, Bree, have three children: Quinn, Drew, and Zane.
