Dana Altman is the head coach of the University of Oregon men’s basketball program and one of the most accomplished coaches in NCAA Division I history. Since taking over in 2010, he has transformed Oregon into a consistent national contender, leading the Ducks to multiple NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Final Four run in 2017—the program’s first in nearly eight decades. Altman has guided Oregon to at least 20 wins in every season of his tenure, placing the program among an elite group nationally for sustained success. A three-time Pac-12 Coach of the Year and the 2013 Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year, he has also led Oregon to multiple conference championships and Pac-12 Tournament titles while developing numerous professional players.
Before arriving in Eugene, Altman built a distinguished résumé with successful head coaching stints at Creighton, Kansas State, and Marshall. At Creighton, he became the program’s all-time winningest coach and led the Bluejays to consistent postseason success, including multiple NCAA Tournament appearances. Across his Division I career, Altman has surpassed 700 wins and maintained one of the longest streaks of winning seasons among active coaches. Known for his adaptability, player development, and postseason success, he remains a central figure in college basketball with a legacy defined by consistency, competitive excellence, and sustained program building.
