D.J. Gurule has been a cornerstone of Gonzaga University tennis for two decades, serving as head coach of the men’s program since 2021 after a highly successful 17-year tenure leading the women’s team. In his transition to the men’s side, Gurule made an immediate impact, guiding the Bulldogs to a record-setting 18-6 season in his first year. That campaign included program-best marks in total wins, winning percentage, home victories, and winning streak, along with a semifinal appearance in the West Coast Conference Championships. His early success established new benchmarks for the men’s program and reflected his ability to build competitive, disciplined teams.
Prior to taking over the men’s program, Gurule transformed Gonzaga women’s tennis into a consistent contender within the WCC. His teams achieved multiple top conference finishes, national rankings, and historic postseason appearances, including the program’s first championship match berth. Across both programs, Gurule has coached dozens of All-WCC selections and helped student-athletes excel academically, earning numerous ITA and conference academic honors. A former collegiate player at Pacific Lutheran University, Gurule brings a deep understanding of the game along with extensive coaching experience throughout the Pacific Northwest. His leadership has been instrumental in elevating Gonzaga tennis both competitively and academically.
