Courtney Hempe
Assistant Coach
Courtney Hempe is a University of Mary Washington (UMW) alumnus and returned to her alma mater to join the Eagles’ coaching staff as an assistant coach. Having joined the program ahead of the 2023 season, Hempe brings to the role extensive experience from the high-school and club volleyball levels. Since 2012 she has served as a club coach for 540 Volleyball and Core Volleyball, and she later held head-coaching positions at Colonial Forge and Riverbend High Schools, where she notched a cumulative record of 127–44, earned multiple region and conference Coach of the Year awards, and guided teams to regional championships and state-tournament appearances.
As a player, Hempe competed for the UMW Eagles from 2012 to 2014 as a setter during a period when the program maintained a strong national-ranking presence. Her return to the program in a coaching capacity underscores a deep connection to the institution and a desire to contribute to the continued success of UMW volleyball. In her current role she supports recruiting, player development, and day-to-day coaching operations, leveraging her own playing background and her extensive experience building successful programs at lower levels.
