Christoph Palmanshofer is a former University of Washington men’s tennis standout who returned to his alma mater to serve as an assistant coach beginning in the 2023‑24 season under head coach Rahim Esmail. In his coaching role, Palmanshofer played a part in helping the Huskies return to the NCAA Championships, leading the team to a strong 17‑9 record, an 8‑5 mark in the Big Ten Conference, a fourth‑place finish, and a semifinal appearance in the Big Ten Championships—their highest year‑end ranking (No. 37) in over a decade. In his first season back, he helped guide the Huskies to several close matches and a notable home victory over USC.
Originally from Austria, Palmanshofer arrived at the University of Washington in 2001 where he lettered for four seasons, helping the Huskies reach the NCAA round of 16 three times. During his collegiate career, he broke into the Top‑40 of the ITA national singles rankings and earned All‑Pac‑12 Second Team honors before moving on to compete professionally, achieving career‑high ATP rankings in both singles and doubles. His extensive experience as a player and understanding of the game contribute to his coaching philosophy and mentorship of student‑athletes at Washington.
