Christine Engel is the head coach of women's cross country and track and field at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in Amherst, Massachusetts, a position she assumed on July 30, 2021.
In her first season leading UMass, Engel coached the Minutewomen to Atlantic 10 and New England outdoor team championships and was named the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year. Her teams continued to produce strong results, including New England indoor and outdoor team titles in 2023 and 2025. In 2024-25, Massachusetts placed second at the Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championships, the program's best conference finish in 24 years, and added another Atlantic 10 outdoor title in spring 2025, when Engel received a second conference outdoor coach of the year honor. Since arriving at UMass, she has overseen multiple Atlantic 10 all-conference and all-rookie performers, conference medalists, and New England champions across cross country and track events.
