Johnson returned to Fayetteville prior to the 2012 season after eight seasons as an assistant coach with Penn State.
In 2024, Coach Johnson became initial women’s head coach to sweep NCAA Indoor and NCAA Outdoor national championship team titles during first season as head coach. He earned National Women’s Head Coach of the Year honors that year during the indoor and outdoor seasons. Arkansas became the first school to sweep the top four places in an event at the NCAA Championships as the Razorbacks finished 1-2-3-4 in the 400m to score 29 points in that event. Nickisha Pryce led the quartet with a collegiate record victory in 48.89, followed by teammates Kaylyn Brown, who equaled the American collegiate record of 49.13 shared with Britton Wilson (2023), along with Amber Anning (49.59) and Rosey Effiong (49.72).
