Charlie Hoyle
Head Coach
Charlie Hoyle was named the ninth head coach in UAB men’s golf history on June 7, 2024. He takes over a program with a strong tradition that includes 14 NCAA Regional appearances and eight NCAA Championship berths. Hoyle arrived in Birmingham after a successful six-year tenure as an assistant coach at the University of Iowa (2018-24), where he helped guide the Hawkeyes to five NCAA Regional appearances. During his time in Iowa City, the program produced two Big Ten Players of the Year, two Big Ten individual champions, an All-American honoree, and multiple all-conference and academic all-conference selections. His reputation for player development and competitive consistency made him a unanimous choice to lead the Blazers.
A native of Lytham, England, Hoyle played collegiately at Lander University in South Carolina, earning two All-Region and First Team All-Conference honors while leading the Bearcats to four consecutive NCAA Division II Regional appearances and a national championship appearance. He later served as an assistant coach at Lander from 2012-16, mentoring 13 all-conference players and two Freshmen of the Year. Hoyle brings both international perspective and championship-level experience to UAB as he begins a new chapter for the Blazers’ golf program. He and his wife, Sydney, have two daughters, Rosie and Lottie.
