Charley Toomey
Head Coach
Charley Toomey has served as the head coach of the Loyola University Maryland men’s lacrosse program for nearly two decades, turning the Greyhounds into a disciplined, athletic and highly skilled squad. Before his tenure as head coach began in 2006, Toomey was a standout player for Loyola from 1987–1990, earning two-time All-America honors as a goalkeeper and eventually helping the program reach its first NCAA Final in 1990.
Under his leadership, Loyola captured its first NCAA Division I Championship in 2012, finishing 18-1 under his direction. Toomey has compiled a career record (as of spring 2025) of 184-101 over 19 seasons as head coach at Loyola, making him the program’s all-time leader in wins. He has overseen the development of 53 USILA All-Americans, 100 all-conference selections, a Tewaaraton Award winner and multiple scholar-athletes. Off the field, Toomey served on the NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Committee, was part of the U.S. Men’s National Team coaching staff, and remains deeply rooted in the Loyola community—a member of the program since 1986. He resides in Anne Arundel County with his wife Sara and their three daughters.
