Caroline McCombs
Assistant Coach
Caroline McCombs began her second stint as an assistant coach with Auburn women’s basketball in April 2025, joining head coach Larry Vickers’ staff. She returns to the Plains after four seasons as head coach at George Washington, where she compiled a 55–65 record and guided the program to multiple Atlantic 10 Championship quarterfinal appearances. During her tenure, she helped produce standout performances from Mayowa Taiwo, who finished third in program history in career rebounds, and Nya Robertson, who earned multiple all-conference honors. Her teams set program defensive records and established a single-season three-point shooting mark, reflecting her balanced, development-focused coaching approach.
Prior to George Washington, McCombs enjoyed a highly successful seven-year run as head coach at Stony Brook, where she won 130 games and became the program’s winningest Division I coach. She led the Seawolves to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2021 after capturing the America East Tournament title and was named the 2020 America East Coach of the Year. Her 2019-20 squad posted a 28–3 record, won 22 consecutive games, and earned national poll recognition before the season was cut short. McCombs also brings 15 years of Division I assistant coaching experience, including previous service at Auburn, Northwestern, Pittsburgh, and Valparaiso, with multiple NCAA Tournament and Sweet 16 appearances. A Medina, Ohio native and Youngstown State standout, she was a 1,500-point scorer, later playing professionally in Europe before transitioning into coaching.
