Brian Michaelson has been a key member of the Gonzaga University men’s basketball coaching staff since 2013, serving as an assistant coach after several years in administrative and operations roles within the program. A former Gonzaga player, Michaelson has deep ties to the university and has grown into an integral figure under head coach Mark Few. He plays a significant role in recruiting, player development, and program continuity, contributing to Gonzaga’s sustained national success. During his tenure, the Bulldogs have consistently competed at the highest level, including multiple NCAA Tournament runs, a national championship game appearance in 2021, and numerous West Coast Conference titles.
Michaelson has been particularly impactful in recruiting and developing talent, helping bring in high-profile transfers and guiding players through breakout performances. His work has contributed to Gonzaga’s reputation for maximizing player potential, with several athletes earning All-American honors and advancing to professional careers. Before becoming an assistant coach, Michaelson served as an administrative assistant and assistant director of basketball operations, demonstrating his long-term commitment to the program. A Portland, Oregon native, he was a walk-on player for Gonzaga and graduated with a degree in business administration. His deep familiarity with the program, combined with his player-to-coach journey, allows him to connect effectively with student-athletes and uphold Gonzaga’s culture of excellence.
