Brian Brecht
Head Coach
Brian Brecht is the head coach of Rutgers men’s lacrosse and recently completed his 13th season leading the Scarlet Knights in 2024. Since being named head coach on June 16, 2011, he has guided Rutgers to sustained national relevance, including back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2021 and 2022. His tenure includes three NCAA Tournament wins, highlighted by a historic 2022 run to the program’s first NCAA Final Four and a 2021 NCAA quarterfinals berth. A two-time Big Ten Coach of the Year (2016, 2021) and ECAC Coach of the Year (2022), Brecht has built a program known for defensive intensity, player development, and consistent competitiveness in the Big Ten.
Brecht has coached at the collegiate level since 1996 and has been a Division I head coach since 2005. Before Rutgers, he spent seven seasons as head coach at Siena, where he was a three-time MAAC Coach of the Year and helped elevate the Saints to multiple championships and NCAA Tournament appearances. Across his Rutgers career, he has coached numerous All-Americans and helped dozens of players move on to professional lacrosse opportunities, while also emphasizing academic success through a strong record of Scholar All-Americans and conference academic honors. Brecht is a Long Island, New York native, played collegiately at Springfield College, and earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education.
