Brett Nelligan
Head Coach
Brett Nelligan grew up in College Park, Maryland, and has deep roots in the GymTerps program, having followed in his father Bob Nelligan’s footsteps. After graduating from the University of Massachusetts in 2003 with a degree in sport management, he joined the Maryland gymnastics staff that same year. In 2006 he was elevated to Recruiting Coordinator, then in May 2009 he became the fourth head coach in the history of the program, succeeding his father. Over his tenure as head coach, Nelligan has built one of the stronger programs in collegiate gymnastics, leading Maryland to thirteen NCAA Regional appearances (2010–2025) and guiding the team to new performance benchmarks. In 2025, the team delivered its best NCAA Regional showing ever with a team score of 196.825, setting event records on vault and floor. He also led the program to its first-ever Session I Big Ten Championship win in 2024 and the highest Big Ten meet score in program history, 196.775. Under his leadership, student-athletes have earned numerous honors both on the competitive and academic fronts.
