Brent MacDonald is the head coach of the West Virginia University men's and women's swimming and diving program in Morgantown, West Virginia. He was named the program's sixth head coach on May 23, 2024.
In his first two seasons at West Virginia, MacDonald began rebuilding the program while guiding athletes to conference and academic recognition. In 2025-26, four Mountaineers won medals at the Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships, with Rafael Mimoso and Natasha Whittall placing seventh in swimming events, Levi Hellmann finishing fourth in diving, and Abigail Sullivan taking eighth. The team also posted significant depth improvements, with 14 top-10 times in program history recorded on the women's side and 25 on the men's side. Freshman Jake Salcedo emerged as a leading performer, moving into the program's top four in the 500-yard, 1000-yard, and 1650-yard freestyle events, including second all-time in the 1000 freestyle. Seven West Virginia student-athletes were named to the 2025-26 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.
