Brent Langdon Williams
Head Coach
Brent Langdon “Buzz” Williams was appointed as the head coach of the Maryland men’s basketball program on April 2, 2025. Over his 18 seasons as a head coach, he has guided teams to 11 NCAA Tournament appearances and posted 13 seasons of 20 or more wins. His previous head coaching stops include Texas A&M (2019–2025), Virginia Tech (2014–2019), Marquette (2008–2014), and a one-year stint at New Orleans (2006–2007). Williams was born in Greenville, Texas, and raised in Van Alstyne, Texas. He earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Oklahoma City University in 1994, then later completed his master’s work in the same field at Texas A&M–Kingsville in 1999. Known for founding “Buzz’s Bunch” — an initiative connecting young people with special needs to basketball — he has sought to blend competitive success with community engagement.
